Staff Spotlight: Brittney Hodges-Bolkovac - Executive Director of Multicultural Education and Partnerships
October 10, 2025
Every week, we shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! This week, meet Brittney Hodges-Bolkovac, Executive Director of Multicultural Education and Partnerships.
“Brittney LOVES what she does! When she was an educator she would always talk about her love of the classroom. Her students were her everything. Now that she's been in her new position for a while, she always talks about her love for the staff, students and district that she gets to serve. It's inspiring to see her in action. She not only spends her five-day week serving, but it's also a lifestyle for her. She will spend weekends with youth, giving them experiences and making their lives more full. She encourages others and lifts others. She's done it plenty of times for me. Brittney wants the best for all students in this district.” - Nuru Roach, West Lincoln Elementary School second grade teacher
In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
At LPS, I support all students, staff, families and the greater community, focusing on fostering an environment of belonging for everyone. My responsibilities are broad: I offer administrative support to our building principals, provide insight to departments like athletics and curriculum, help teachers deepen connections with their learners and advocate alongside students and families. I help to ensure that every individual who steps into our buildings experiences them as welcoming ones.
How long have you worked for LPS?
I have been with LPS in various roles for a total of 12 years. I started as a substitute paraeducator while in college and came back in 2015 as a classroom teacher.
What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I am a product of LPS, and as a kid some of the most impactful relationships I had with adults were the educators in my life. Knowing the investment I have in my own community and being able to help shape the trajectory of today's youth who will eventually become the leaders of tomorrow is huge. Being a positive role model for kids from all walks of life, who might not always see the path ahead, is what guided me into education. I want to see our city win in all areas and it starts with our youth, today!
What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
My favorite part of working at LPS has been the full-circle experience of working alongside my former teachers and administrators. As for what I find most rewarding? One highlight that stands out is when I have random run-ins with former students and they share with me where they are at in life and how they are doing. Some of them finally understand the "why" behind a decision I helped make—which might've been something they didn't grasp at the time—and they aren't shy at acknowledging this but also sharing their appreciation towards me for sticking with them. It reminds me it's all worth it!
Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
Elliott Elementary for Pre-K, Huntington Elementary K-5, Culler 6-7, Lefler 8-9, LHS 10-12
What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for my B.A., College of St. Mary for my M.A. Teaching, Concordia University for my M.Ed Admin, Doane for my Ed.S and I will graduate from Doane with my Ed.D in May of 2026.
What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
It’s a "big little family" where connections are strong, and you often run into people who know someone you know. Everyone belongs here.
What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
"Oh, the Places You'll Go!” by Dr. Seuss. Life can be unpredictable and throw so much at us, however there is always a new path to take or a door to open. We have to take time to celebrate the little victories and appreciate small things on our journey to the finish line.
Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
This is tough so instead of just one, I want to thank every teacher, admin, counselor, coach, etc., who saw me for me. Your guidance not only exposed me to new ways of thinking and learning, but you also showed me incredible patience, especially when emotions were high. Thank you for taking the time to truly understand me. You all played a massive role in shaping the person I am today and are one of the biggest reasons I chose to pursue the field of education!
